In my time at The Daily Texan I've been able to cover some pretty fun stories and so if you'd like to take a look, I'm more than glad to share them with you.
Here are a few of my favorites:
1) Rare occurrence combines two holidays creating “Thanksgivukkah”
Behind the article: The best reward of reporting is learning about things you didn't know before---this article is the prime example. Through my interviews with my sources, I was able to learn quite a bit about Judaism and Hanukkah. And by reading this article I can almost guarantee you will learn something you didn't know before. Does that sound like a challenge to you?
2) Cockrell Hall repairs to reduce energy loss and save University money
Behind the article: My beat for the semester was campus construction.... sounds boring right? Yeah that's what I thought too until I was handed a hard hat and safety goggles.. Touring the construction sites was really entertaining and informative. Especially this article because I went in thinking I was going to be learning about the exterior renovations, instead I found out the workers found another problem and were fixing it to save UT quite a bit of money. Check it out to find out what was wrong with the building! *Construction on this building is still underway*
3) Artist James Turrell reflects on a new SAC skyspace
Behind the article: This guy has a huge following--- I mean his art is everywhere in Texas. He's like a celebrity in the art world. It was pretty cool going to hear him talk about his newest art piece right here at UT! His art is not only for looking at, it's for experiencing. Definitely check it out. Also, if you have time, make a reservation to go visit the skyspace at the Student Activity Center before the semester is over. From what I've heard, you won't regret it.
